The Short Version
As of September 2026, Red at the top tables mostly means Gogeta : BR (FB09-001), a midrange board-control deck, not low-curve aggro that runs out of cards. It took 6 top-cut spots across five official regionals from late August to Sep 20, 2026, more than any other Red leader, and it wins with near-free Fusion Evolve sweeps plus an alternate win when you sit at 1 life with no Battle Cards. Barrier is your best answer: Bandai's official FAQ confirms Barrier cards can't be hit by "choose all" effects like FB09-121's -25000. A card knocked to 0 power goes to the Drop, which isn't a KO, so "can't be KO'd" won't save it. On defense, combo last, and combo with Battle Cards rather than Extras, because FB10-012 makes your Extras cost 2 more once it attacks. And when FB09-007 swings twice at 35000, remember that ties go to the attacker: you have to beat 35000, not match it. The other Red leader with top cuts, Son Goten (ST01-001), starts the game with a [Field] card in play that can pay for its Kamehameha Extras. Your removal can't touch that Field, so aim it at Battle Cards, and leave headroom on your attacks for a free Kamehameha pump.

If Red keeps beating you, the usual advice is to survive the early rush and wait for Red to run out of cards. That advice describes a deck that isn't winning right now. As of September 2026, the Red deck with the most regional top cuts is Gogeta : BR (FB09-001), and it doesn't run out of anything. Its leader draws a card every time it attacks, draws two once it awakens, and its strongest turns come in the middle of the game, when a pair of cheap 20000-power halves turns into a Gogeta for 0, 1 or 2 energy, and the right Gogeta shrinks your whole board.
So this guide rebuilds the matchup from current sources: DeckPlanet's results snapshot of the five official regionals played between late August and Sep 20, 2026 (Auckland, Toronto, Bologna, Melbourne and Sao Paulo), Bandai's comprehensive rules (ver. 1.08, updated Sep 12, 2026), the official FAQ, and the card text itself. Several cards in this matchup share a name. The deck runs three different Gogeta : BR Battle Cards plus a Gogeta : BR leader, and there are two Golden Frieza : BR cards in different colors, so every card this guide breaks down or recommends comes with its code. When you build, copy the code, not just the name.
You'll get the rules this matchup actually turns on, the Gogeta : BR game plan step by step, a tech table for each color, the life math behind its alternate win, a mulligan and play pattern, and a section on the two other Red decks worth knowing: Son Goten (ST01-001), which took two top cuts of its own, and FB10 Son Goku with Super Genki-dama.
What Red Means in Fusion World Right Now
DeckPlanet's snapshot (updated Sep 22, 2026) counts the leaders in the Top 8 or Top 16 of each of those five regionals, 64 decks in all, and Red is not the most-played color in them. The most-played leader was Yellow Son Goku (FS11-01), the leader of the FS11 starter deck, with 23 of the 64. Next came Green Son Gohan : SH (FB09-049) with 11, Blue Vegito (FB05-025) with 7 and Red Gogeta : BR (FB09-001) with 6. Yellow Broly (FB08-073) had 4, Black Gogeta : GT (FB09-097) had 3, and Red Son Goten (ST01-001), from the new ST01 Story Booster, had 2, as did the Yellow Son Goku/Vegeta leader (FB09-073). The full breakdown is on DeckPlanet's Fusion World meta page. For the first of these events in detail, our Fusion World meta tier list covers the Auckland Top 8 and how it reshuffled the post-ST01 rankings.
Gogeta : BR's six finishes include two 2nd places: 2nd, 6th and 8th in Auckland, 2nd in Bologna, and 5th and 14th in Sao Paulo. No other Red leader comes close. Son Goten (ST01-001) finished 4th in Sao Paulo, one place above Gogeta : BR, and 13th in Bologna, but two finishes against six makes Gogeta : BR the Red deck to prepare for first, and the lead example in this guide. Son Goten gets its own section further down. DeckPlanet's guide to the deck classes it as midrange with medium tempo, and that label is more useful to you than "aggro." It does attack every turn, but it wins by controlling your board, not by racing you to zero.
A third Red leader worth knowing is the FB10 Son Goku (FB10-001), which builds [Ki] and finishes with Super Genki-dama. It had no top-cut finishes in those five events, so it's a second-tier deck right now. It still shares that section with Son Goten, because its finisher can take three life in one swing.
What's legal right now
One timing note before the tech. FB11 Brightness of Hope comes out in English on October 16, 2026, so its cards are not tournament-legal yet, and this guide doesn't recommend any of them. The newest legal product is Story Booster ST01, released Aug 21, 2026, and FB12 is scheduled for December 18, 2026. Our FB11 release dates and preorder guide tracks the launch. The newest official banned and restricted list is from March 13, 2026, and none of the cards recommended below are on it. The restricted Babidi is FB04-085; the Babidi in this guide is FB03-083, a different card. Once FB11 is legal, new cards enter the format, so check this guide's recommendations against the first FB11-legal results before you lean on them. For how the field got here, our post-ST01 meta report walks through July and August, up to the Auckland regional.
The Rules You're Leaning On
A lot of lost games against Gogeta : BR come down to a rule the losing player had slightly wrong. These are the ones that decide this matchup, checked against the comprehensive rules and Bandai's FAQ. If several of them are new to you, read our beginner's guide to playing Fusion World first, then come back.
| Rule | What it means against Red |
|---|---|
| Life | You start with 8 life. When you take damage, the top life cards go to your hand, so damage refills your hand. [Critical] is the exception: it sends those cards to the Drop instead. |
| Double and Triple Strike | A connecting attack deals 2 or 3 damage, and the attacker can't choose to deal less. Super Genki-dama grants Triple Strike. |
| Ties | The attacker wins ties. If attack power is equal to or higher than your guard card's power, your Battle Card is KO'd or your Leader takes damage. |
| Attack targets | Attacks can only target a Leader or a Rest Mode Battle Card. Active Battle Cards can't be attacked. The first player can't attack on their first turn. |
| [Blocker] | When another of your cards is attacked, you can rest an Active Blocker to make it the new guard card. One Blocker per battle, decided right after the attack is declared, and not after you've combo'd. The attacker's [When Attacking] effects resolve first. |
| [Barrier] | The card can't be chosen by your opponent's skills, including "choose all" effects (official FAQ Q309). It doesn't stop the card being attacked while rested, and it doesn't stop effects that don't choose. |
| Combos | Combos are free. The attacker combos first, then the defender, and the attacker can't add more after that. You can combo with Active Battle Cards on your board or Battle Cards revealed from hand. Combo'd cards go to the Drop after the battle. |
| [Activate Battle] | Usable in your Defense Step on your opponent's turn, unless the card says [Your Turn]. |
| 0 power | A Battle Card at 0 power or less goes to the Drop by rule. That isn't a KO, so "can't be KO'd" doesn't protect it. |
| [Awaken] | The Leader can flip once its condition is met. It's activated at [Activate Main/Battle] timing, so its owner chooses when, including in their Defense Step on your turn. For Gogeta : BR, the condition is its own life at 5 or less. |
Two of these carry most of the weight. Barrier is the only keyword that shuts off Gogeta : BR's sweeps completely, and the defender-combos-last rule lets you win fights on their turn without spending energy. Our guide to playing around Critical, Barrier and Blocker goes deeper on the keywords. The rulings themselves are on Bandai's official Barrier FAQ and in the comprehensive rules PDF.
How Gogeta : BR Actually Wins
Left to right: the Gogeta : BR leader (FB09-001), Son Goku : BR/Vegeta : BR (FB09-011) and the 0-cost Fusion Evolve Gogeta : BR (FB09-006).
The three top-cut lists we checked (2nd in Bologna, 2nd in Auckland and 5th in Sao Paulo) share the same core: the three Fusion Evolve Gogetas (FB09-006, FB09-007 and FB09-121), a spread of cheap Son Goku : BR and Vegeta : BR halves (FB09-010, FB09-011, FB09-020, FB10-012 and FB10-017), the setup cards Piccolo : BR (FB09-013), Cheelai : BR (FB09-012), Son Goten (FB08-008) and a 1-cost Son Goku : BR (FB09-008) that simply draws a card, and Golden Frieza : BR (FB09-005) as a combo card. Here's how those pieces fit together.
Step 1: Two cheap halves at 20000
Every Gogeta in the deck uses [Fusion Evolve]. It needs a Son Goku : BR and a Vegeta : BR in the Battle Area with equal power of 20000 or more, and the Gogeta is played on top of both. Most of the halves cost 2 and already have 20000 power. FB10-017 Vegeta : BR prints 15000 but gets +5000 on its owner's turn, which is exactly when the Evolve happens. FB09-011 is another 20000 half for 2, and with the Gogeta : BR leader its On Play moves one of the Gogeta player's own life cards into their hand, then looks at five cards for another BR card. Lowering their own life is deliberate, and it feeds step 3.
Step 2: A Gogeta for almost nothing
The [Fusion Evolve] cost is where the deck gets its tempo. FB09-006 costs 0 to Fusion Evolve, FB09-007 costs 1 and FB09-121 costs 2, even though the cards print costs of 5 and 6. Run the numbers with those Fusion Evolve costs, not the printed ones: with one half already on board, they need only 2 energy for a second half plus a free FB09-006, or 3 energy for a second half plus FB09-007. That's why "wait for them to run out" fails: every step of the plan costs them very little, and FB09-006 even draws a card when it lands.
FB09-006 is a 25000-power Gogeta whose On Play draws a card, then gives every Battle Card on your side -5000 for the turn. FB09-121 is a 40000-power Gogeta whose On Play gives every Battle Card on your side -25000 for the turn. Anything that drops to 0 goes to the Drop. Both effects choose all of your Battle Cards, and choosing is exactly what Barrier stops.
Gogeta : BR FB09-007 (left) switches back to Active once when it attacks; Gogeta : BR FB09-121 (right) carries the -25000 sweep and the alternate win.
Step 3: The awakened leader cleans up
The Gogeta : BR leader can awaken once its life is at 5 or less, and FB09-011 helps it get there without any help from you. Once awakened, the leader draws 2 and puts 1 on the bottom of the deck every time it attacks. It also gains a once-per-turn [Activate Main]: if a BR Battle Card with [Fusion Evolve] was played that turn, it chooses any number of your Battle Cards with a total power of 15000 or less and KOs them. Pair that with FB09-006, and your 20000-power Blocker becomes a 15000-power card the leader can KO. Pair it with FB09-121, and anything that survived the -25000 at 5000 power gets KO'd too, up to three cards.
Step 4: Two swings and the alternate win
FB09-007 has 35000 power and, once per turn when it attacks while their leader is Gogeta : BR, it switches itself back to Active Mode. In practice it attacks twice. FB09-121 supplies the finish: at the end of the Gogeta player's turn, if your life is exactly 1 and you have no Battle Cards, they win the game. They don't need to deal the last point of damage. They need you at 1 with an empty board, and their sweeps are built to empty it.
For the stacking rules in more detail, our Fusion Evolve mechanic explainer walks through them step by step, and the FB09 Dual Evolution set review covers the rest of the set these cards come from.
Anti-Red Tech by Leader Color
You can only put your leader's colors in your deck, so "just play Barrier" only helps if your color has it. Our guide to the five Fusion World colors covers what each color does in general. The table below is built for this matchup. Pay as much attention to "when" as to "what": a rested Blocker can't block, and a Barrier card you combo with is gone.
| Card | Code | Color | Cost | Power | What it answers, and when |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vegeta | FB10-089 | Yellow | 1 | 5000 | Gains [Barrier] under a leader with both Saiyan and Another World traits, so the sweeps and the leader's KO can't choose it. Not under Broly (FB08-073), which is Saiyan only. Get it down before any turn that could put you at 1 life (from 3, FB09-007's two swings can do it) and leave it Active. |
| Babidi | FB03-083 | Yellow | 2 | 5000 | Native [Barrier] for any Yellow leader, Broly included. Same job as Vegeta: a Battle Card that keeps FB09-121's alternate win switched off. |
| Frieza | FB05-120 | Yellow | 4 | 30000 | [Barrier] on a real body; survives every Gogeta sweep. When it attacks, pay 2 to send a rested FB09-006 or a rested half (cost 5 or less) to the Drop. |
| Gotenks | FB09-075 | Yellow | 4 (2 with an [Evolve] card in your own Battle Area) | 25000 | [Blocker] for the FB09-007 double swing. Needs 15000 or more combo power to beat 35000, because ties go to the attacker. |
| Cooler | FB01-113 | Yellow | 4 | 30000 | [Blocker]. When it blocks, rest one of their Battle Cards and KO it if it costs 2 or less: snipe a waiting half, or rest a Gogeta that hasn't attacked yet. |
| Piccolo : SH | FB09-067 | Green | 3 | 20000 (30000 on their turn with 3+ [Ki]) | [Blocker]. At 30000 on their turn it beats an FB09-006 that was already on board. The turn FB09-006 lands, its -5000 leaves Piccolo at 25000: safe from the leader's 15000 KO, but tied with FB09-006, so add 5000 combo power. |
| Golden Frieza : BR | FB06-051 | Green | 4 | 30000 | [Blocker] that beats FB09-007 with 10000 combo power. The turn FB09-006 lands, its -5000 ties this card at 25000, so add 5000. Survives FB09-121 at 5000, but an awakened leader can then KO it. |
| Gamma 2 : SH | FB09-052 | Green | 4 | 25000 | On Play with 3+ Ki on your leader: KO a Battle Card that costs 3 or less. Use it on a half left on board before they can Fusion Evolve. |
| Grueling Training | FB10-071 | Green | 1 | – | +15000 in your Defense Step (no [Your Turn] tag). Costs 3 for the rest of the turn once FB10-012 has attacked. |
| Vegito | FB05-040 | Blue | 4 | 30000 | On Play: return a Battle Card costing 4 or less to its owner's hand. Bounce a half and they have to rebuild the pair and pay for it again. |
| Meta-Rilldo | FB04-123 | Black | 4 | 30000 | [Blocker]. Beats FB09-007 with 10000 combo power. After FB09-006's -5000 it's 25000: above the 15000 KO line, but tied with FB09-006, so add 5000 combo power. |
Yellow: Barrier is your big advantage
Yellow has the cleanest answers because it has the most Barrier. Vegeta (FB10-089) costs 1 and gains [Barrier] while your leader has both the Saiyan and Another World traits. That covers Son Goku (FS11-01), the Yellow FS11 starter leader and the most-played leader in these results, and the Yellow Son Goku/Vegeta leader (FB09-073). Barrier only stops effects that choose, and FB09-121's -25000, FB09-006's -5000 and the Gogeta : BR leader's KO all choose. So a 5000-power Vegeta sits through all three. It doesn't work under Yellow Broly (FB08-073), whose only trait is Saiyan: there, Vegeta is a plain 5000 with no Barrier. Babidi (FB03-083) does the same job natively under any Yellow leader, which makes it the cheap Barrier card for Broly players, with Frieza below as the bigger one. Bandai's FAQ for this Babidi confirms it isn't KO'd by a "choose all" KO effect, which is the clearest official proof that Barrier works against sweeps.
Frieza (FB05-120) is the premium version: 30000 power with Barrier, for 4. It survives every Gogeta sweep and can't be picked by the leader's KO. On your turn, its [When Attacking] lets you pay 2 to send a Rest Mode Battle Card costing 5 or less to the Drop. That reaches a rested FB09-006 (cost 5) or any rested half, but not FB09-007 or FB09-121, which cost 6. One catch: attacking rests Frieza, and a rested card can be attacked. Barrier stops skills, not attacks. At low life, decide whether Frieza is worth more swinging or standing.
For Blockers, Gotenks (FB09-075) is a 25000 Blocker that costs 2 less while you have a card with [Evolve] in your own Battle Area. The rules count [Fusion Evolve] cards as [Evolve] cards, but only cards on your side count here, so the Gogetas on their board don't give you the discount. Yellow's Evolve decks switch that discount on easily. Our FS11 vs FS12 starter comparison covers the Evolve Goku starter those decks grow out of. Cooler (FB01-113) is an older card worth testing here. It's a 30000 Blocker, and when it blocks, it rests one of their Battle Cards and KOs it if that card costs 2 or less. Block a swing while a half is still on their board and you can break up a pair they were saving to evolve. Or rest a Gogeta that hasn't attacked yet. FB09-007 only switches back to Active when it attacks, so a Gogeta you rest first can't swing that turn.
Green: Ki-powered Blockers and a clean KO
Green's best deck, Son Gohan : SH (FB09-049), gains a [Ki] each time its awakened leader attacks, and two of Green's answers key off 3 or more Ki on the leader. Piccolo : SH (FB09-067) is a 3-cost, 20000-power Blocker that gets +10000 on your opponent's turn once your leader has 3 Ki. At 30000 it beats a 25000 FB09-006 that was already on board. On the turn FB09-006 lands, though, its -5000 drops Piccolo to 25000. That's still too big for the leader's 15000 KO, but it now ties FB09-006, and ties go to the attacker, so you need 5000 combo power to hold the block. Golden Frieza : BR (FB06-051) is a 4-cost 30000 Blocker with no Ki requirement. Don't confuse it with the Red FB09-005 of the same name. Its "can't be KO'd once per turn" only works while a card costing 7 or more is in a Battle Area, and the Gogeta : BR deck's Gogetas cost 5 and 6, so don't count on it. Treat it as a plain 30000 Blocker. That 30000 is what matters: it's why the card is still standing at 5000 after FB09-121's -25000.
Gamma 2 : SH (FB09-052) is your proactive answer. It's a 25000 for 4, and with 3 Ki on your leader its On Play KOs a Battle Card costing 3 or less. Aim it at a lone Son Goku : BR or Vegeta : BR. Fusion Evolve needs both halves at 20000 or more, so removing one before their turn means they need to find and pay for another half before the Gogeta can land. This only matters if they leave a half on board across a turn, so don't sit on Gamma 2 forever waiting for the perfect target.
Grueling Training (FB10-071) is a 1-cost [Activate Battle] Extra with no [Your Turn] tag, so it works on defense for +15000. The extra +10000 needs a leader with the Master's Teachings trait and a total of 3 or more Ki. Son Gohan : SH doesn't have that trait, so in that deck it's a flat +15000. Watch the cost as well: once FB10-012 has attacked, your Extras cost 2 more for the rest of that turn, and Grueling Training costs 3.
Blue and Black: fewer answers, but not none
We don't have a cheap Barrier card to recommend in Blue or Black for this matchup, so these two colors lean on 30000 bodies and tempo. Blue's Vegito (FB05-040) is a 30000 for 4 whose On Play returns a Battle Card costing 4 or less to its owner's hand. Bounce a waiting half, and they have to replay it and pay for it again before they can Fusion Evolve. Black's Meta-Rilldo (FB04-123) is a 4-cost 30000 Blocker. It beats FB09-007 with 10000 combo power and stays above the leader's KO line after a -5000 sweep, though at 25000 it then ties the FB09-006 that swept it and needs 5000 combo power to hold. Neither survives an FB09-121 turn if the Gogeta leader is awakened, which is why the life math in the next section matters even more for these two colors.

Life Math: Awaken at 5, Alternate Win at 1
Two life totals decide this matchup: theirs at 5 and yours at 1. Our guide to leader Awakening by color covers thresholds across the whole game. Here's what those two numbers mean against Gogeta : BR.
Their 5: you can't keep them asleep
The Gogeta : BR leader can awaken at 5 life or less, and FB09-011 moves their own life into their hand to get there sooner. You can't keep the leader unawakened just by not attacking it. Plan to face the awakened leader from about the midpoint of the game. Every time it attacks, it draws 2 and bottoms 1, and on every Fusion Evolve turn it gets its 15000-power KO. Remember too that each point of damage you deal goes into their hand. Push damage when it moves you toward a winning turn, not just because an attack is available.
Your 1: what survives FB09-121
FB09-121 checks at the end of their turn: if you're at exactly 1 life with no Battle Cards, they win. The -25000 lands on their turn, and if their leader is awakened, the leader's KO follows it the same turn, because FB09-121 is itself a BR card played with [Fusion Evolve]. Here's what's left of your board afterwards.
| Your Battle Card | After FB09-121's -25000 | After an awakened leader's KO |
|---|---|---|
| A Barrier card (Vegeta FB10-089, Babidi FB03-083, Frieza FB05-120) | Unaffected | Unaffected. You survive the check. |
| A 30000 body (FB06-051, FB04-123, FB05-040, or Piccolo : SH on their turn with 3+ Ki) | Left at 5000 | KO'd; the leader can take up to three cards at 5000 |
| Anything at 25000 or less | 0 power, placed in the Drop | Already gone |
The takeaway: at 1 life, only a Barrier card reliably keeps you in the game against FB09-121. A 30000 body survives the sweep itself, but if their leader is awakened (and by the time you're at 1, it usually is), the leader KOs whatever is left at 5000.
This changes when you should take hits. At 5 or more life, letting a half's attack through is often fine: the life card goes to your hand, and you keep your Blocker for the Gogeta. At 3 it gets tight, because FB09-007 swings twice and two connecting attacks take you from 3 to 1. If their next turn could put you at 1, get a Barrier card on board and keep it Active before that turn starts.
Mulligan and Play Pattern vs Red
Mulligan: one redraw, so use it well
Fusion World gives you one full redraw of your 6-card opening hand, not repeated mulligans. Leaders are revealed before anyone draws, so you know whether you're facing Gogeta : BR, Son Goten or FB10 Son Goku before you decide. Keep a hand with a card you're happy to charge as energy early, at least one piece that matters in this matchup (a Barrier card, a Blocker, or a removal card like Gamma 2 : SH), and a couple of Battle Cards with 10000 combo power to defend with. Redraw a hand with nothing to do before your third turn. Don't redraw a working hand just because your best tech card is missing: a fresh six can be worse, and there's no third try. Our mulligan and mind-games guide covers opening-hand decisions in more depth.
Early turns: go after the halves
The halves are the weak point. A Son Goku : BR or Vegeta : BR that attacked is now rested, and rested Battle Cards can be attacked on your turn. An awakened 20000 leader beats a 20000 half on the tie, though they can combo to save it. Every half you remove before their turn delays a Gogeta. Gamma 2 : SH, Vegito's bounce and Cooler's block trigger all do this same job from different colors.
Keep your energy on curve while you do it. Our guide to curving out in Fusion World explains why a missed energy drop costs you more against a tempo deck than against a slow one.
The sweep turns: don't overextend
FB09-006 costs them 0 and FB09-121 costs 2, so assume a sweep is coming on any turn they have two halves out. Don't flood the board with 5000 and 10000 Battle Cards into that. Cards in your hand can't be swept, and they still work as combo power from hand. Play the bodies that survive: Barrier cards, 30000 Blockers, and 25000-plus cards that stay above the leader's KO line after a -5000. Keep the rest in hand.
Combo discipline: combo last, combo free
Son Goku : BR (FB10-012) taxes the Extras in your hand; the Red Golden Frieza : BR (FB09-005) is their 20000 defensive combo.
The defender combos after the attacker, and the attacker can't add more once you have. On their turn, that means you see their final number before you commit. Add just enough to go over it. Use combo power from Battle Cards, which costs nothing, rather than cost-1 [Activate Battle] Extras. Son Goku : BR (FB10-012) is the reason: when it attacks while their leader is Gogeta : BR, every Extra in your hand costs 2 more for the rest of the turn. Our Fusion World combo system explainer covers the full timing.
Two more timing rules decide fights here. First, the Blocker decision comes before combos. You choose whether to block right after the attack is declared, and you can't block after you've combo'd, so settle the block first and then spend combo power. [When Attacking] effects resolve before that decision, too: if they have a Son Goku : BR out, FB10-017 Vegeta : BR gives one of your Battle Cards -5000 as it attacks, which can shrink the Blocker you were counting on. Second, when you're the attacker, they combo last. Golden Frieza : BR (FB09-005) has 10000 combo power and gets +10000 more when they combo it from hand on your turn. Any attack you make against the Gogeta player needs about 20000 of headroom, or it bounces off and your combo cards go to the Drop for nothing.
Other Red Decks: ST01 Son Goten and FB10 Son Goku
Gogeta : BR is the Red deck you'll meet most, but it isn't the only one. Son Goten (ST01-001) is the only other Red leader with top cuts in those five regionals, and FB10 Son Goku (FB10-001) is a second-tier deck with a finisher you need to respect. Here's what each one does and which of the tech above still works.
Son Goten (ST01-001): two top cuts and a Field that starts in play

Son Goten is a Red leader from the ST01 Story Booster. It took 4th in Sao Paulo, one place above Gogeta : BR, and 13th in Bologna. Its first skill works before the game starts: when the leader is placed in its Leader Area, it plays up to 1
The leader draws a card every time it attacks, before and after it awakens. It can awaken once it has 3 or more [Ki] on it. Nothing on the leader adds that Ki, so it comes from the rest of their deck. Awakened, it gains one more skill: at the end of their turn, if they used a
Three pieces of this guide's tech carry over, going by the 4th-place Sao Paulo list and the 13th-place Bologna list on DeckPlanet and Bandai's text for the cards in them.
Your removal can't touch the Field. Gamma 2 : SH (FB09-052), Vegito's bounce (FB05-040), Frieza's Drop effect (FB05-120) and Cooler's block trigger (FB01-113) all target Battle Cards, and a [Field] is an Extra, so spend them on Battle Cards. Most of the Battle Cards in both lists cost 3 or less, which puts them in range of Gamma 2 : SH and Vegito, and Cooler KOs the ones that cost 2 or less.
Barrier still earns its slot. Both lists remove your cards with skills that choose: one gives a Battle Card -25000, another KOs a Battle Card with 25000 power or less. Barrier cards ignore both, and a 30000 body survives the KO and is left at 5000 after the -25000. Barrier stops skills, not attacks, though, and both lists also run a card that lets one of their Battle Cards attack your Active Battle Cards.
Leave headroom when you attack. The Kamehameha Extras in both lists that work on defense add 15000 or 20000 power to the card in battle, and with the Field Active and enough Ki, the Goten player pays nothing for one in their Defense Step. Plan on the same 20000 of headroom the combo section recommends against Gogeta : BR, on top of whatever they combo.
One caution on their turn. Both lists also run a bigger Kamehameha Extra that only works on their own turn: it removes all the [Ki] from the leader, 5 or more, and gives a Son Goten or Son Gohan : Adolescence Battle Card in battle +10000 power for each one removed, and the next time their card KOs one of your Battle Cards in battle that turn, you take 2 damage. So count the Ki under their leader, the same habit the FB10 Son Goku section below recommends. At 5 or more, blocking one of those Battle Cards with a card you expect to lose can cost you two life instead of the one the attack would have dealt.
FB10 Son Goku (FB10-001): second-tier, but one swing can take three life
The FB10 Son Goku leader (FB10-001) plays very differently from Gogeta : BR. It can awaken once there are 2 or more total [Ki] in its owner's Battle Area. Once awakened, it gets +10000 when it attacks if its Ki went up that turn, and its once-per-turn [Activate Main] moves every Ki in its owner's Battle Area onto the leader. The finisher is Super Genki-dama (FB10-024), a 1-cost Extra that removes all the Ki from the leader during a battle, and needs at least 7 to do it. If there are no Extras costing 2 or more in its owner's Drop, the leader then gains [Triple Strike] and +5000 power for each Ki removed.
At 7 Ki, that's +35000 on a 20000 leader, and three damage if it connects. You'll rarely out-combo that, so block it. The Blocker decision happens when the attack is declared, before they can play Super Genki-dama in their Offense Step, and Triple Strike only deals damage when your Leader is the guard card. A Blocker in the way takes the three damage off the table. The Goku player knows this and will try to draw your Blockers out first. Once their side holds 7 or more Ki in total, keep one Active Blocker back for the leader's swing, and let smaller attacks through to your leader if your life can take them.
Two more habits help. Count the total Ki on their side, not just under the leader, because the leader's [Activate Main] can gather all of it onto itself in one move before it attacks. And check their Drop: once an Extra costing 2 or more is in it, Super Genki-dama still removes the Ki but gives no Triple Strike and no power.
Common Mistakes
Waiting for Red to run out of cards. The Gogeta : BR leader draws on every attack and draws 2 once awakened, FB09-011 and Piccolo : BR (FB09-013) dig for BR cards, and every point of damage you deal lands in their hand. Why it costs you: you spend turns on defense waiting for a turning point that never arrives, while Gogetas keep landing for 0 to 2 energy.
Using up your Barrier card. Attacking with Frieza (FB05-120) rests it, and a rested card can be attacked. Comboing a Vegeta (FB10-089) or Babidi (FB03-083) from your board sends it to the Drop after the battle. Why it costs you: the one card that stops the alternate win is gone, or it's a legal target for FB09-007, right when you need it.
Matching 35000 instead of beating it. Ties go to the attacker, so a 25000 Gotenks (FB09-075) plus 10000 combo power loses to FB09-007. You need 15000 or more. Why it costs you: you lose the Blocker and the combo cards in the same battle, and the Gogeta still has its second swing.
Paying for Extras after FB10-012 attacks. Once Son Goku : BR (FB10-012) attacks with Gogeta : BR as their leader, a cost-1 trick like Grueling Training costs 3 for the rest of the turn. Why it costs you: you tap out for a pump that free Battle Card combo power could have covered, and you may not have the energy for it at all.
FAQ & Quick Reference
Does Barrier stop Gogeta : BR's -25000 sweep? Yes. Barrier means your opponent's skills can't choose the card, and Bandai's official FAQ (Q309) confirms that includes "choose all" effects like FB09-121's -25000 and FB09-006's -5000. It also stops the Gogeta : BR leader's KO, which chooses its targets.
Does "can't be KO'd" protect my Battle Card from FB09-121? No. A Battle Card at 0 power or less goes to the Drop by rule (comprehensive rules 14-6-2), and that isn't a KO. Only Barrier, or enough power to stay above 0, keeps it on the board.
How does Gogeta : BR win without dealing the last damage? Through FB09-121. At the end of the Gogeta player's turn, if your life is exactly 1 and you have no Battle Cards in your Battle Area, they win the game.
When does the Gogeta : BR leader awaken? Any time its owner chooses once their life is at 5 or less, including during their Defense Step on your turn. FB09-011 moves one of the Gogeta player's own life cards to their hand, so it often awakens earlier than your attacks alone would cause.
Is Red the best color in Fusion World right now? Not by the top-cut numbers. Across the 64 top-cut decks DeckPlanet counts from five regionals between late August and Sep 20, 2026, the most-played leader was Yellow Son Goku (FS11-01), with 23. Red Gogeta : BR (FB09-001) had 6, behind Green Son Gohan : SH (11) and Blue Vegito (7), and Red Son Goten (ST01-001) added 2.
How many times can you mulligan in Fusion World? Once. Each player may make one full redraw of their 6-card opening hand, starting with the first player.
How do I play against Son Goten (ST01-001)? Expect a [Field] card in play from the start, because the leader fetches it before the game begins. Your Battle Card removal can't hit it, so use that removal on their Battle Cards. Their removal chooses its targets, so Barrier cards and 30000 bodies hold up well. Their Field can pay for a Kamehameha Extra in their Defense Step, and once the leader awakens they can use it on their own turn and still have it back for yours, so give your attacks about 20000 of headroom.
How do I stop Super Genki-dama? Block the FB10 Son Goku leader's attack whenever it has 7 or more Ki on it, and remember the leader can gather every Ki on their side before it swings. You choose to block before they can play the Extra, and Triple Strike only deals damage to a Leader. It also does nothing if an Extra costing 2 or more is in their Drop.
Bring Barrier, Guard Your Last Life Point, and Combo Last.
As of September 2026, Red at the top tables is mostly Gogeta : BR, a board-control deck that sweeps cheaply and wins at your 1 life, not an aggro deck that runs dry. Play the Barrier and 30000 Blocker tech your color allows, remove halves before they pair up, and never reach 1 life without a Barrier card on board. Against Son Goten, spend your removal on Battle Cards, not its Field, and leave room for a free Kamehameha. Against FB10 Son Goku, save a Blocker for the leader's swing once their side holds 7 Ki.
